AI Exposed the Lie
A recent survey by the RAND Corporation found that 67% of middle and high school students believe AI is eroding their critical thinking skills, but 62% are using AI for homework more than ever before. This paradox highlights a systemic problem where students feel pressured to use AI to get better grades, which determines university admissions and life outcomes. Students are aware of the issue but have no rational incentive to behave differently. This raises questions about the education system's values and whether it ever genuinely valued independent critical thought. The students' concerns are especially pronounced among female students, who are more likely to agree that AI harms critical thinking skills.
