Your uptime monitor is lying to you: why single-vantage-point monitoring can't see network reality

Traditional uptime monitoring tools can't accurately reflect network reality due to their single-vantage-point approach. This can lead to incorrect assumptions about service availability. To fix this, use lightweight agents in each network location to measure connectivity from the source that needs it. This approach is more accurate and can work behind firewalls and other network restrictions. To handle the increased data volume, pre-aggregate completed hourly buckets into a heartbeat_rollup table.
