Sony’s PlayStation disc factory is already being repurposed

Sony's disc factory is being repurposed due to declining disc demand. The Thalgau plant, which produces 600,000 discs daily, will reduce production to 10% of its current volume by 2028. This change will affect 300 employees, who will be retrained to work on optical microlenses. This shift reflects the decline of physical game discs in favor of digital distribution. Engineers may need to consider alternative manufacturing processes.
